In the official trailer for Speak No Evil, a remake of the 2022 Danish horror smash Gaesterne, written by Christian Tafdrup and Mads Tafdrup, James McAvoy's enigmatic host spoils his visitors with a relaxing weekend on his peaceful country estate.

The two-minute, 55-second teaser, which was released by Universal Pictures on Thursday, opens with an American couple named Louise (Scoot McNairy) and Ben Dalton (Mackenzie Davis) meeting a charming British family while on vacation. They get to know Paddy (McAvoy), his silent son Ant (newcomer Daniel Hough), and his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosi).

As the families grow closer, Paddy extends an invitation to Louise and Ben for a weekend getaway at their picturesque country estate prior to his retirement from medicine. But the isolated location begins to feel sinister, particularly after Paddy coerces Louise, a vegetarian, into trying meat. As their 11-year-old daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler) begins to question Ant's actions, the tensions increase even more.

Louise slices her hand, adding to the eerie mood, and Paddy abruptly retracts his claim to be a doctor. After confusing them to no end, he admits that he was just doing his job. The pair of kids choose to move to a traditional melody. However, Paddy becomes irrationally angry at witnessing his son's lackluster performance.

Ant keeps opening his mouth, as though he wants to say something to Ben and Louise. When Agnes, Ben, and Louise decide to leave, things get worse. After a couple jump scares, Ant makes an enigmatic gesture that seems to be an attempt to suggest that someone has severed his tongue.

The trailer was unveiled by director James Watkins during CinemaCon, the yearly gathering for owners of movie theaters now taking place in Las Vegas. On the other side, despite being a wonderful and outgoing friend, host, and father, Paddy is not that. during all," the director remarked during the gathering, describing the process of making the film as "kind of like summer camp with a small deviant edge."

September 13 is when Speak No Evil is scheduled to premiere.
