Sweet Tooth season 3 trailer: Gus embarks on a final mission to save the world
A still from Sweet Tooth S3.

In the teaser for the third and final season of Netflix's Sweet Tooth, Christian Convery's half-human, half-deer character Gus is the only one who can save the planet from the apocalypse originating from the H5G9 Virus, commonly known as the Sick.

The two-minute, 44-second teaser, which the streamer released on Tuesday, opens with a picture of Gus, also known as Sweet Tooth, and a voiceover by Adeel Akhtar's Dr. Aditya Singh. According to Dr. Singh, he knows the answer to the central mystery of the post-apocalyptic world.

Gus is the first hybrid born just before the virus outbreak ten years ago, as we find out in later sequences. It then goes on to depict Gus's voyage to Alaska, where he sets out to prevent the end of the world.

Tommy Jepperd, portrayed by Nonso Anozie, a beloved character, debates with Dr. Singh on their plan for Alaska. He remarks to Gus, "You're asking him to save the world, he hasn't even saved him," before other sequences feature hybrids, including Bear (Stefania LaVie Owen) and Wendy (Naledi Murray), deciding how to proceed in consultation with Jepperd, Gus, and Dr. Singh.

The government official Helen Zhang (Rosalind Chao), who aspires to exterminate hybrids, presents a new threat as well. Action-packed moments are also featured in the trailer, with a focus on the battles between the government officials and the hybrids. At the end of the teaser, Jepperd instructs Gus to "lead the way, Sweet Tooth."

The universe of Sweet Tooth, which debuted in 2021 amid the Covid-19 pandemic, is one in which a viral outbreak kills most people on Earth at the same time that hybrid infants with animalistic traits are born. The hybrids who the survivors believe to be the source of the apocalypse alienate them as they defend themselves against the virus by donning masks.

Showrunner Jim Mickie said in a statement, "At the beginning, I think you set out to tell these landmark pieces of Gus's story and the big pieces of the comic book, but the beauty of long-form storytelling and Gus's journey over 24 episodes is the characters themselves tell you what they want to be."

On June 6, Netflix will begin broadcasting the last season of Sweet Tooth.
