TMC Worker Detained for Alleged Molestation in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali Area

Sandeshkhali, West Bengal - A worker of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has been detained on charges of allegedly molesting a minor girl in the Sandeshkhali area of West Bengal, according to local police.

The complaint, lodged by the girl’s mother, states that the accused somehow managed to enter their house on Friday night and molested the minor. The girl, a Class-8 student, was able to escape and raise an alarm, alerting family members and neighbours.

The Sandeshkhali area, located on the borders of the Sundarbans and about 100 km from Calcutta, has been a hotspot of tension. In February, the region witnessed protests over allegations of sexual abuse and land grab against a now-arrested TMC leader, Shajahan Sheikh, and his supporters.

An officer from the Basirhat Police District confirmed that the accused, believed to be around 20 years old, is currently being questioned in connection with the incident.

A medical examination has been conducted on the girl, and the report is awaited. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and stricter law enforcement.
