Trabzonspor Fans' Pitch Invasion Leads to Violent Scuffles After Loss to Fenerbahce

Twelve people have been detained by Turkish police when Trabzonspor supporters stormed the field after a home loss to Fenerbahce, igniting violent altercations between the supporters and the visiting players.

The Turkish Superlig match in the Black Sea coastal city of Trabzon on Sunday saw the players of Fenerbahce celebrate their 3-2 victory as the Trabzonspor supporters stormed onto the field.

Following punches or kicks, some Fenerbahce players retaliated, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency. Afterwards, Fenerbahce players were assisted by security personnel to enter the locker rooms through a tunnel.

The incident occurred shortly after the Turkish football association temporarily suspended league games due to the arrest of the president of top-tier team Ankaragucu for striking a referee after a match.

On Monday, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya declared on X, the former Twitter, that 12 persons had been arrested by police about the violence.

A fan who snatched the corner flag and charged toward the players, a man who was the first to invade the pitch, a person who hit Fenerbahce goalkeeper Dominic Livakovic, and a person who threw a missile at Fenerbahce coach Ismail Kartal were among those held, according to Yerlikaya.

Yerlikaya had already declared that there was an ongoing inquiry and that the intruders will be identified.

Gianni Infantino, the president of Fifa, and the Turkish football federation both denounced the incident.
