On Friday morning, the remains of a housewife and her little daughter were discovered on railway lines in Malda.
When they saw the dead, the people at Krishnapally, which is next to Malda Medical College & Hospital, alerted the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Malda Town station.
It seems that the mother and her daughter leaped in front of a moving train. They both passed away instantly. We are obtaining more information and awaiting post-mortem results," a GRP official said.
Kabita Haldar Gupta, 31, and her daughter Sanghamitra, 3, were pronounced died.
The GRP discovered during the first probe that she was married to a teacher ten years before. Reportedly, the GRP is looking into a "suicide" note that was discovered close to the victims.
