Trinamul Congress Launches Statewide Movement After Mahua Moitra's Ouster from Lok Sabha

With the intention of creating a movement around Mohua Moitra, the MP for Krishnanagar, being kicked out of the Lok Sabha, the Trinamul Congress took to the streets of Nadia on Saturday.

Although the party intends to address the matter across the state in the next several days, the movement got its start on Saturday in Moitra's Nadia parliamentary seat of Krishnanagar.

In a series of protests held in Krishnanagar, representatives of the Trinamul party put aside their differences to support Moitra, who was ousted due to the cash-for-query incident.

The issue at hand is not limited to the people of Krishnanagar who chose Mahua Moitra as their leader. Instead, it is a protest against the BJP's arbitrary and unjust policies, according to Trinamul MLA Rukbanur Rahaman from Chapra.

Moitra's Lok Sabha seat is represented by the Chapra Assembly segment, which gave her a lead of around 49,000 votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Approximately 3,000 party members protested her dismissal on Saturday by marching from Shrinagar to Murgihata.

"With Moitra's expulsion, the BJP government has blatantly ignored the people's verdict that sent her to the Lok Sabha," Rahaman said in an interview with The Telegraph. It is an outright betrayal of the general sentiment, which was anti-BJP. We'll bring this problem to the public, and the movement won't stop at Krishnanagar.

A top Trinamul politician in Calcutta acknowledged that the Moitra campaign was a part of the party's bigger agenda, saying, "It is a big issue the BJP has handed us." We'll shortly discuss specific plans to launch the movement in each district.

"A war has started this morning. We all promise to bring Mahuadi back to the legislature. The head of Trinamul's Chapra block, Sukdeb Brahma, said, "We have pledged to guarantee her a lead with a bigger margin than the last Lok Sabha poll."
