Two Killed, Three Injured in Truck Accident at Durga Puja Immersion in Jamshedpur

Two people were killed and three others were injured after a truck carrying out Durga Puja at a ghat in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on Tuesday night lost control. The local government has filed a formal complaint against the driver who fled.

In addition, district transport officer and district motor vehicle inspector Manjunath Bhajantri, deputy commissioner for East Singhbhum, have been instructed to work together to determine if the truck's brakes were mechanically defective.

At least six people were reportedly taken beneath the truck after it went backwards on Tuesday night while navigating the Bodhanwala Ghat hill on the Kharkai River in Bistupur, carrying the idol of the Jugsalai Naya Bazar Puja Committee.

Following the tragedy, the motorist left the scene. Locals and Bistupur police rescued the wounded and brought them to the nearby Tata Main Hospital, where three patients were receiving treatment and two of them passed away from their injuries.

According to a statement from Tata Main Hospital, 45-year-old Abhimanyu Gorai of West Midnapore, Bengal, who was playing dhak, could not survive his serious injuries. Birendra Kumar, a native of Kitadih, had already arrived dead.

Three people are receiving treatment and are in a stable medical condition: Gopal Gorai, 45, who has injuries to his chest, hand, and leg; Bijay Gorai, 40, who is from West Midnapore in Bengal and has injuries to his hip; and Hugra Mukhi, 40, a resident of Jugsalai, who has injuries to her hip and face.

Senior superintendent of police for East Singhbhum Kishore Kaushal stated that Bistupur police had already filed a formal complaint against the truck's fugitive driver for reckless driving. A requisition was sent to the district transport officer and motor vehicle inspector to determine whether the driver was at fault for reckless driving or whether the truck's brakes had malfunctioned.

Hemant Soren, the chief minister, expressed regret for the two people's deaths.

"May God offer strength to the grieving family members to endure this loss and serenity to the departed spirits. The wounded individuals are receiving medical attention from the district administration. "I hope everyone who was hurt gets well soon," he stated.

The Kendriya Durga Puja Committee on Wednesday agreed to give Rs 1 lakh as compensation for the family of the dead immediately and demanded that the Dhalbhum SDO Piyush Sinha provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to each of the deceased person's family members.

Elsewhere in Jharkhand, the Durga Puja immersion transpired without incident on Tuesday.
