JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna Arrested on Charges of Sexual Abuse
Suraj Revanna, a JD(S) MLC and brother of former MP Prajwal Revanna, was arrested on Sunday following allegations of sexually abusing several women, police sources reported. He faces charges of "unnatural offences" under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
A complaint was filed by a 27-year-old man who accused Suraj of sexually abusing him at a farmhouse in Ghannikada on June 16. Based on this complaint, Holenarasipura police booked Suraj under IPC sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 506 (criminal intimidation) late Saturday evening. Suraj was questioned overnight at the CEN police station before his arrest.
Suraj Revanna, 37, who is also the eldest son of Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna and the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, has strongly denied the allegations. He claimed that the complaint was a false attempt to extort Rs 5 crore from him. On Friday, an extortion case was registered against the JD(S) worker based on a complaint by Suraj's close aide Shivakumar, who alleged that the worker initially demanded Rs 5 crore, later reducing it to Rs 2 crore, threatening to lodge a false case of sexual assault.
The Revanna family is already under scrutiny as Suraj's brother, former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, is in police custody for allegedly sexually assaulting several women. Prajwal was arrested on May 31 upon his return from Germany, where he had been staying after multiple rape and intimidation cases were registered against him.
Their parents, H D Revanna and Bhavani, are currently out on bail, facing accusations of kidnapping and detaining an alleged victim of Prajwal's assaults.
