Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, star of Never Have I Ever, revealed on Monday that she has joined the cast of Freaky Friday 2, the follow-up to the 2003 comedy starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. She did so by sharing a screenshot of a news article.

"Amazing news on a Monday, if I may say so myself," the actress, 22, said to Instagram.

In addition to Maitreyi, Sophia Hammons is reportedly one of the newest members of the cast. The movie will have Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Lucille Soong, Haley Hudson, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao reprising their roles.

Disney revealed on Instagram earlier today that the movie has begun development and will be released in 2025. "In 2025, The Colemans will return and hit theaters! They stated, "Freaky Friday 2 is currently in production," with a silly photo of Curtis and Lohan on the movie set.

The sequel to Freaky Friday will be directed by Canadian director Nisha Ganatra. She is well-known for directing the 2020 picture The High Note, which starred Tracee Ellis Ross and Dakota Johnson. Ganatra recently directed multiple episodes of Welcome to Chippendale's on Hulu.

The plot of Freaky Friday centers on a woman and her teenage daughter who, after obtaining mysterious fortunes at a Chinese restaurant, have their bodies switched. They learn to navigate one other's life and develop a deeper empathy and understanding. Despite being complete opposites, the pair discovers important life lessons and figures out how to flip the switch.

In 2003, Disney released Freaky Friday, which grossed USD 160 million at the movie office worldwide. Producer Andrew Gunn, who supported the first movie, is apparently working with former Disney executive Kristin Burr to produce the follow-up.

Lindsay made a brief appearance in the Mean Girls musical film that was released this year, as well as a recent appearance in the romantic comedy Irish Wish on Netflix. Her Little Secret, a Netflix original film starring Kristin Chenoweth and Ian Harding, is in the works.

Curtis, who took home the best supporting actress Oscar from Everything Everywhere All at Once last year, will be starring with Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart in the film version of the hit computer game Borderlands.
