Among the Indian creatives who have been selected for BAFTA's 2023 Breakthrough list are director-writer Don Chacko Palathara and writer Abhay Koranne of Rocket Boys, as well as emerging writers, editors, and directors from the UK, US, and India's film, video game, and television industries.

On Wednesday, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and Netflix jointly released the 2023 Breakthrough list, which features 42 up-and-coming creatives from the three regions.

The life stories of Indian scientists Homi Jehangir Bhabha and Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai, who collaborated to create the nation's first nuclear bomb, are the basis for the SonyLIV series Rocket Boys, which stars Jim Sarbh and Ishwak Singh. In contrast, Palathara's Joyful Mystery narrates the tale of a Keralan couple who, while en route to a medical facility, deliberate about their future. You can watch the 2021 movie on Apple TV.

Editor Abhinav Tyagi of An Insignificant Man, Soni writer Kislay, director Lipika Singh Darai of Some Stories Around Witches, cinematographer Pooja Rajkumar Rathod of Secrets of the Elephants, and sound editor Sanal George of Gangubai Kathiawadi are also included in the list.

A panel of industry professionals, including Guneet Monga and Ratna Pathak Shah, chose the creatives.

"The previous two BAFTA Breakthrough iterations show that there is no shortage of creative talent in India. The selection of ten worthy candidates from a large pool of new applicants was difficult, according to Monga, the BAFTA Breakthrough ambassador for India.

A shortlist of twenty creative candidates was selected from the UK set. At the top of the list were Dreaming While Black author Adjani Salmon, actor Bella Ramsey from The Last of Us, Rain Dogs creator Cash Carraway, and director Charlotte Regan of Scrapper. In the meantime, three nominations have been received for Georgia Oakley's Blue Jean: one each for director, makeup and hair artist Kat Morgan, and actress Rosy McEwen.

A dozen American creatives have been chosen for the 2023 Breakthrough list. Joyland producer Apoorva Charan, actress Aminah Nieves from 1923, senior games writer Cheyenne Pualani Morrin from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and Amanda Kim from Nam June Paik: Moon Is The Oldest TV director are among those featured.
