The Australian Open men's doubles champion Rohan Bopanna, an ace tennis player, visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and gave him the racket he used to win the Grand Slam.

Today, I had the honor of meeting our esteemed Prime Minister Modi ji. This recognition is very humble, and I had the privilege of presenting the same racket that let me win the AO Grand Slam and rank #1 in the world," Bopanna said on X.

"Your (PM Modi's) grace has left me inspired & encouraged," he said.

Modi commented on Bopanna's tweet, saying, "Happy to have met you, @rohanbopanna. Your success inspires many people, and your commitment makes India proud. I hope all of your future endeavors go well."

With a decisive victory against Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, Bopanna and partner Matthew Ebden won the Australian Open, making history as the third Indian to win a men's doubles Grand Slam.

In men's tennis, only the legendary Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi have won major championships for India; in women's tennis, Sania Mirza was a pioneer.

Having won the French Open mixed doubles trophy with Canada's Gabriela Dabrowski in 2017, this was Bopanna's second Grand Slam victory.
